Yesterday my dad and I went to the second mandatory orientation for Rotary Youth Exchange. It started at noon and ended at five. There was an hour presentation by the health insurance company, and then shorter fifteen minute presentations by some of the rotarians. We heard about the six d’s, or no-nos. (No: drugs, delinquency, devotion, disfigurement, driving, drinking). And donuts. Just kidding. Also, we met with our country contacts, except mine wasn’t there because she was sick. The country contact for both France and Italy wasn’t there either, so the France, Italy, and Poland outbounds all met together, with a country contact that wasn’t our own. It was a bit frustrating because we couldn’t ask specific country questions, but we were fine.
It was a pretty basic orientation. A repeat but more in depth of the last one.
The exciting part was tonight, when I got an email from my country contact saying I was finally accepted by the Poland Rotarty Club!!!!!! You see, the way it works is this: you are tentatively accepted by your club at home, and then your application must be sent overseas and accepted by the host club. And let me tell you, it takes forever to hear back. I think I’m one of the first ones to hear back. As I mentioned earlier, my friend from a school a few hours away found out weeks ago. Which wasn’t fair at all. But now I have something to brag about too… just kidding.
So I have a host club, and a host club counselor. I am finally making progress in the tedious process. Maybe I’ll even get to go to Poland someday!!
That’s all for now…
