Today, three days after my local interview. I found a letter from rotary waiting for me on the kitchen table. It thanked me for applying and referred me to the next level of the application process! I will now be attending the Passport Fair, fill out the fourteen page application, and attend the district interview. This will all commence in a couple of weeks.
Local Interview
September 30, 2007I finally had my local interview. On Thursday, I completed the first step in the rotary application process. The interview was held at my school in the conference room of the high school office. I was interviewed by the chairperson of our district and three other rotary officers. Because it was at the local level, the interview was very informal and relaxed. Here are some of the questions I was asked:
-What do you hope to accomplish while on rotary?
-Where do you imagine going and why?
-If you were asked to prepare a traditional American meal, what would you make?
-If you were asked what it’s like to be an American, what would you say?
-How do you feel about being an American?
-What are your opinions on drugs and liquor?
-What is your best character trait? Accomplishment?
-What kinds of food do you like?
-What is your favorite instrument to play?
-What are your plans for when your last year in high school? For college?
Those are the majority of the questions I was asked. I was very comfortable talking in front of the four interviewees. I will be finding out if I passed or didn’t pass this level of the application process sometime the week. If I pass at this level, I will be going to the Passport Fair (where you go to stations describing the countries you can go to) and the district interview (an hour away). I will also have to fill out a fourteen page application. I’ll update my blog when I receive the letter referring me to the next level, or refusing me.
